The artwork symbolizes the evolution that occurs from the time one enters college to graduation, through intellectual and social interactions. It also helps with wayfinding by defining the east/west axis through campus and student gathering area. The floor was also designed to be seen from the 5-story glass elevator and balconies that surround the atrium.
